Veera Kopsala’s third solo exhibition Spawning concentrates on the theme of sexuality. She started working on the exhibition during the summer 2023 when she did three reliefs of different generations of women. Spawning represents women (and frogs) who claim different physical positions against any expectations. In her work, Kopsala wants to carve out the female body that can be seen as many, from playful to sexual.

Kopsala works intuitively and she sees art as a playground: a place where one can think with her whole body. The material, wood, plays an important role in this. The natural resistance of wood forces Kopsala to concentrate on the material rather than herself. The wood always gives its own view and depth to the work.

Veera Kopsala (b. 1991 Nurmijärvi) is an artist working in the field of carving, painting and performing arts. She uses wood as a material. She creates three-dimensional reliefs using different techniques and tools: chisel, angle grinder, electric saw, acrylic and watercolor painting. The focus of her art is in physical presence.

In Kainuu region Kopsala has presented her works earlier in the Kajaani City Theatre’s Anna Liisa play. Maaseudun Sivistysliitto and Suomen Taideyhdistys have Kopsala’s works in their collections. She graduated from Uniarts Helsinki’s Academy of Fine Arts in 2022 and is currently working with a one year grant from Finnish Cultural Foundation. Kopsala’s next exhibition will be held in April 2025 at Porvoo’s Taidehalli.
